The second part of my duties will be expanded from what it was last year. I had helped to lead music during a few of the Shabbat services during my three weeks there, and also taught a songleading workshop for teens and adults two evenings a week. This year, there will probably not be a songleading workshop, and instead I will be leading music at every Shabbat service (Friday night and Saturday morning), plus possibly a service during the festival of Shavuot. The synagogue is in transition, interviewing for a new music position that is not scheduled to begin until July. They will be without a full-time active Cantor for the month of June, and so have asked me to take part in more service music than last summer. It will definitely require additional preparation on my part, but it will be worth the opportunity and I am very excited. Plus, one of the Friday night service will be a return of Shabbat In The Park, a summer series of three Friday evening outdoor service the synagogue instituted last year. I have been invited back as the featured guest artist for the June service, and am very happy about that as well. (Photo: Shabbat In The Park, June 2013)
I am looking forward to visiting TTBJ again in June, this time not as a stranger but as a friend among friends.
