I also had a great time meeting Carlos Gamez, who will officially become the temple's Music Director in June. Carlos is a brilliant young musician who loves Judaism and Jewish music; he and I will stay in touch and share resources through the coming year.
El Paso is a city surrounded by majestic, rugged mountain ridges and a huge sky. Sunsets are nothing short of awe-inspiring here. During my visit, the wind picked up and gusts were so hard that I was advised against riding a bicycle; I walked instead and enjoyed views of exotic (to me, anyway) cacti and succulents. (It remained windy for the rest of the weekend; my takeoff Sunday evening was very bumpy and momentarily even a little scary as the plane hopped in midair!)
Everywhere I went, I had to stop and just stare at the mountains. If I am blessed to return, I'll be sure to bring my hiking boots and do some exploring.
Many thanks to everyone at TMS for a warm welcome. I hope I'll see you again!
