I want to let my Portland-based friends know that over the next several months, I hope to grow my local profile more. But I won't necessarily be doing it in local synagogues or at the JCC.
The truth is that one of my great longtime dreams has been to play my Jewish-influenced songs in coffeehouses and bars.
So I am focusing some deliberate energy on doing more of that this Spring and Summer.
Does this mean I'll tour less?
Not necessarily. But it does mean that I will focus on playing out more where I live when I'm not touring. Because I don't have a paying synagogue gig here in Portland, I am freed up to play in commercial venues and also to do house concerts. (More about the house concerts in a minute.)
I want to bring my songs of hope, love, loss and renewal to Just Regular Folks, in regular settings where people go to hear live music while enjoying an evening out. I think they mix well.
Over the past year I've been showing up to share my songs at open mics around town. Now that I have a better sense of what's out there, I'm ready to clarify my own local presence and pursue that nagging dream.
So if you're in PDX, come on out and support Jewish Music Made By Hand at a coffeehouse or pub near you. And be sure to bring a friend! (AND don't forget to tip your server.)
As for house concerts, I love doing these intimate shows, and want to play more of them in Oregon and SW Washington. Here's the deal: If you want to raise funds for a cause we both agree on, I will share the door with your chosen beneficiary. So reach out to me at:

Wishing you buckets of peace --Beth
